Highlands Ranch is a master-planned community that has been building out since the early 1980s, so its houses range from original builds to recent construction. Updating a kitchen or bath in an established home raises different questions from new construction: what stays, what goes, and how new stone will sit on cabinets that are already in place.

Updating an existing kitchen in Highlands Ranch
A lot of countertop work in established neighborhoods is an update, not a gut remodel. New stone on existing cabinets can change a kitchen more than almost any other single upgrade, as long as the cabinets underneath are sound.
Check the cabinets first
Stone is heavy. The cabinet boxes need to be level, solid and free of water damage, especially under the sink. We see them up close during the in-home measurement and will tell you if something needs attention before new stone goes on.
Plan the backsplash with the top
Taking off an old countertop often exposes a strip of unpainted wall or broken tile. Decide at the consultation whether you want a full stone backsplash, a short splash or new tile, so the plan covers the whole wall.
Sinks and faucets
Many people switch to an undermount sink when they move to stone, and that changes the cutout. Choose the sink and faucet before fabrication so the opening and faucet holes are cut correctly.
Bathroom vanity tops, from hall baths to double vanities
Bathrooms are a good place to try a material you might not choose for a kitchen. A vanity uses a small amount of stone, so marble or quartzite costs far less here than across a full kitchen.
For a primary bath, we plan a double vanity as one piece when the length and slab allow, with both sink cutouts and faucet holes matched to your fixtures. For a kids' bath, quartz is hard to beat. Toothpaste and makeup wipe off a non-porous surface without a fight.
Sunlight, altitude and choosing a surface
Like the rest of the south metro, Highlands Ranch sits more than a mile above sea level, where UV exposure runs higher than at the coast. Indoors, that only matters where a counter gets strong direct sun for hours a day.
Granite, quartzite and soapstone aren't affected by sunlight. Quartz uses a resin binder, and its makers commonly warn against prolonged direct UV. A sunny bay window over the sink or a west-facing kitchen with foothill views are the spots to think about. The dry air, on the other hand, doesn't affect stone at all.
- Busy kitchen, minimal upkeep: quartz, kept out of long direct sun.
- Busy kitchen with a very sunny window: granite.
- Marble look that stands up to more wear: quartzite.
- Primary bath with a classic feel: honed marble.
- Basement bar: quartz or soapstone.

Countertop questions from Highlands Ranch
Do you install countertops in Lone Tree?
Yes. Lone Tree is part of our service area, with a free estimate, free in-home measurement and a personalized quote within 24 hours of your request.
Can you put new stone countertops on my existing cabinets?
Usually, yes, as long as the cabinets are level, structurally sound and free of water damage. We check them during the in-home measurement and let you know if anything needs fixing first.
How much does it cost to replace countertops in Highlands Ranch?
The material, total square footage, slab count, edge profile, cutouts and backsplash choices drive the price, along with how many rooms you include. Our quote form offers budget ranges from $1,000 to $3,500 up to $20,000 and more. The free estimate gives you a figure for your specific kitchen or bath.
Is marble a good choice for a Highlands Ranch bathroom?
It can be. A vanity sees fewer acidic spills than a kitchen, so marble etches less there. A honed finish hides etch marks better than polished, and periodic sealing helps with staining.
What's the difference between quartz and quartzite?
Quartz is engineered from crushed quartz and resin, non-porous and consistent in color. Quartzite is a natural stone that's harder than granite, with marble-like veining, and it needs sealing like other natural stone.
