Estimates and pricing

Are your estimates really free?

Yes. Estimates are free, and so is the in-home measurement. There is no obligation and no pressure. We would like you to make a good decision, not a fast one, so take the quote, compare it and ask us anything that is unclear. If you decide to go ahead, the measurements we take are the ones fabrication works from.

How quickly will I get a quote?

We send a personalized quote within 24 hours of your request. The more you tell us up front, the closer that first number will be: rough dimensions, the rooms involved, the material you are leaning toward and your budget range. Photos of the space and your cabinet layout help too. The quote is refined once we measure in your home.

How much do countertops cost?

The price comes from a handful of variables: total square footage, the material and the specific slab, edge profile, the number of sink, cooktop and faucet cutouts, backsplash height and how many seams the layout needs. A small vanity and a large kitchen with a waterfall island are different projects. A free estimate turns those variables into a real number for your space.

What budget ranges do you work with?

Our request form offers five ranges: $1,000-$3,500, $3,500-$7,000, $7,000-$12,000, $12,000-$20,000 and $20,000+. Picking one does not lock you in. It tells us which materials and details to put in front of you first, so the recommendations fit what you actually want to spend.

Why do two quotes for the same kitchen differ so much?

Usually because they are not quoting the same thing. Check the material and slab, the edge profile, backsplash height, the number of cutouts, whether sink mounting is included, and what happens to your old countertops. One quote may assume a single seam and another three. Compare line by line, and ask each company to spell out what is included.

Does a full-height backsplash cost more than a short one?

Yes. A full-height stone backsplash uses more slab, often needs pattern matching to the counter below, and requires cutouts for outlets and switches. It also wipes clean with no grout lines, which is why many people decide it is worth it behind a range. We can quote both options so you can see the difference.

Materials

What countertop materials do you offer?

Our featured materials are granite, marble, quartz and quartzite, and we also work with soapstone. Butcher block, concrete, laminate and other options are listed on our request form as well. Tell us what you have in mind, and we will tell you honestly whether it suits the room, the way you use it and the upkeep you are willing to do.

Which countertop material is the most durable?

It depends on what you mean by durable. Quartzite and granite are very hard and handle heat well. Quartz resists stains best and needs no sealing, but direct heat can scorch its resin. Soapstone scratches easily yet never etches, and scratches sand out. Marble is the softest of the group and etches with acids. Match the material to the risk you actually face.

What is the difference between quartz and quartzite?

Quartzite is a natural stone: sandstone transformed by heat and pressure, quarried in slabs and harder than granite. Quartz countertops are engineered from crushed quartz bound with resin, which makes them non-porous and consistent in color. Quartzite needs sealing and handles heat better. Quartz needs no sealing but wants trivets under hot pans.

Does granite need to be sealed?

Most granite benefits from sealing, though some dense stones absorb very little. The simple check: put a few drops of water on the surface and wait about 15 minutes. If the stone darkens, it is time to reseal. How often depends on the stone, the finish and how hard the counter works. We recommend a schedule for your specific slab.

Will marble etch, and is that a problem?

Marble is mostly calcite, and acids like lemon juice, wine, vinegar and many cleaners dissolve its surface, leaving dull spots. Sealing slows staining but does not stop etching. Whether that is a problem depends on you. Some people like the patina that builds over time. Others notice every mark. A honed finish hides etching far better than polished.

Is soapstone a good countertop material?

For the right person, yes. Soapstone is dense, handles heat well and does not etch, so lemon and wine leave no marks. It is soft, so it scratches and dents, but light scratches sand out and mineral oil evens the color. If you want a stone that ages visibly and can be repaired at home, it is worth a look.

Measurement, fabrication and installation

When should countertops be measured?

After the base cabinets are installed, level and fastened. We template on the real cabinets, because drawings and plans rarely match what gets built to the inch. Have your sink, faucet and cooktop chosen by then, or have their spec sheets ready, since the cutouts are made to those exact fixtures. The in-home measurement is free.

What happens at the in-home measurement?

We template every run, corner and overhang, check walls for square and cabinets for level, and confirm the sink, faucet and appliance details. We also mark where seams will fall and talk through edge profiles and backsplash height. Plan to have a decision-maker home, because several choices are easier to settle standing in the room than over email.

Will my countertops have seams?

Most kitchens have at least one. Slabs come in finite sizes, and L-shaped or long runs usually need a joint. Vanities and small bar tops often fit on one piece. A well-made seam is tight, flat and filled with color-matched epoxy. We show you where each seam will fall before fabrication, so you are not surprised on installation day.

How long does fabrication and installation take?

It depends on the project size, the material you choose, how quickly fixtures and cabinets are ready, and the schedule at the time you book. A single vanity and a full kitchen with a waterfall island are on very different timelines. Ask during your estimate and we will give you a realistic picture for your project.

How should I prepare for installation day?

Clear the counters, the cabinet tops and the inside of any sink base. Leave a clear path from the door to the room, and keep pets and kids out of the way while pieces are carried in. Make sure appliances that sit under the counter are in place. Someone should be home to confirm the layout before the crew starts.

Do you remove old countertops and handle plumbing?

What is included depends on the project, so ask during your estimate. Tearing out old tops and disconnecting or reconnecting the sink, faucet and cooktop are the items people most often forget to ask about. We would like each of them spelled out in your quote, so nobody is waiting on a plumber after the stone is set.

Working with us

Where are you located?

We are based in Denver, Colorado. Every project starts with your request and a free in-home measurement, so most of the planning happens in the room the countertops are going into. If your project is outside Denver, ask when you request your estimate and we will tell you plainly whether we can take it on.

What are your business hours?

We work Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 6:00pm. You can send an estimate request at any time, and we send a personalized quote within 24 hours of your request. In-home measurements are scheduled with you directly, at a time when someone can be home to walk through the space.

How much experience do you have?

Over 15 years of countertop work and more than 500 completed projects. That experience mostly shows up in the unglamorous parts of the job: where seams land, how overhangs are supported, whether a slab is right for the room. It is also why we will tell you when a material you love is a poor fit.

Do you offer a warranty?

Ask during your estimate, and get any coverage terms in writing with your quote. Coverage on installation and coverage on the material itself are often separate things. Many engineered quartz makers offer their own product warranty, which may require registration. Natural stone is usually treated differently, so ask what applies to the specific material you choose.

Can you do more than one room at the same time?

Yes. Our request form includes a Multiple Areas option for kitchen, bathroom and wet bar work together. Combining rooms means one measurement visit and one plan. If you want the same stone in two rooms, choosing slabs together is the surest way to get a close match, since natural stone varies between slabs.
